The Knox City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would amend garbage collection rates in the city.
During a special meeting that took place September 8th, officials said that the ordinance is needed to reflect a rate increase associated with a previously accepted renewal. The planned increase will be spread over three years.
The ordinance would amend portions of the existing Knox Municipal Code concerning user fees, collection policies and limitations for garbage removal services.
A motion and second were made during the meeting to approve the ordinance on first reading, and was approved unanimously.
A public hearing on the 2027 budget was also conducted at the meeting; but given that no community members were in attendance, the public hearing was closed without public comment.
