North Judson Heavy Trash Pickup Set for October 15

The Town of North Judson announced this week that it will hold a residential heavy trash and large item pickup Thursday, October 15th.

The pickup is limited to homes within the corporate limits of North Judson that pay for garbage service on their water bills. Commercial properties, apartment buildings and trash from small businesses operating out of homes will not be included.

Accepted items include carpet, padding, rugs, mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture, grills and push lawn mowers; though preparation and size requirements apply.

Carpet, padding and rugs must be rolled and tied into sections no longer than four feet and no wider than two feet in diameter, with each section weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture must be wrapped in plastic and sealed for curbside pickup. Mattresses must be queen size or smaller, and sofas longer than 80 inches and hide-a-bed or sleeper sofas will not be accepted.

Gas grills must have propane tanks removed, while push lawn mowers must be drained of oil and gas. Riding lawn mowers will not be accepted.

Small items must be placed in bags or cans. Loose piles will be left for the homeowner to dispose of.

Waste Management will not accept items including auto parts, tires, batteries, electronics, construction or remodeling materials, chemicals, paint, propane tanks, ashes, fencing, medical waste, concrete, bricks, dirt, rocks, sod or stumps.

Appliances containing Freon, including air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators and dehumidifiers, will only be accepted if they have a certification sticker showing the Freon was removed by a certified technician.

Residents are encouraged to review the complete pickup guidelines before placing items out for collection.
