The Starke County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it is accepting applications for its second Citizens Police Academy of 2026.
The announcement states that up to 20 participants will be selected from current Starke County residents, business owners, school leaders and others with a vested interest in the community.
Participants will have an opportunity to tour Sheriff’s Office facilities and learn about several divisions, including Dispatch, Jail Operations, Patrol, Detectives, Drone Teams, K-9 Teams and the SRT Team. The academy will include hands-on and interactive activities focused on how the different divisions operate.
Classes will begin Wednesday, October 7th and continue each Wednesday through November 4th, with graduation scheduled for November 11th. Classes will be held from 5pm to 8pm Central Time at the Starke County Sheriff’s Office.
Applications are available by emailing awilhelm@starke.in.gov or at the Starke County Justice Center. Completed applications can be returned by email or dropped off at the Justice Center at 5435 East State Road 8 in Knox.
The first Starke County Police Academy ran in March of this year, with approximately 10 participants graduating from the program.
