The Starke County recovery community will hold its annual Walk for Recovery next Friday, September 18th in recognition of National Recovery Month and Overdose Awareness Month.
The event is intended to raise awareness and remember those who have died, while bringing together people in recovery, their families, friends and other community members.
Participants will gather at 4pm Central Time at MBS Fitness and walk to Wythogan Park in Knox. MBS Fitness is located at 21 North Main Street.
Following the walk, activities at the park will include information and resources from community partners, testimonies, and a demonstration on how to properly administer Narcan. There will also be food, drinks and activities for adults and children at the park.
Walkers are encouraged to make a sign, share their journey or otherwise participate in remembrance of someone who has died or is still fighting addiction.
An announcement about the walk made by Starke County Court Services shares that National Recovery Month is observed each September to increase awareness of mental health and substance use disorders, reduce stigma and recognize people in recovery and those who support them.
An informational flyer shared about the walk states that the event is still looking for partners and those who have lost loved ones and are willing to speak.
Those wishing to participate in that way should reach out to McKenna Mitchell, a Peer Recovery Coach at HealthLinc.
She can be reached at 219-205-0980.
The walk is sponsored by HealthLinc and Hub Coalition Starke County, as well as other partners.
