PORTER & LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors LP will have additional lane closures on I-94 eastbound between State Road 49 and U.S. 421 starting on or after Tuesday, September 8 and weekend ramp closures at I-94 and U.S. 421 on or after Friday, September 11.
In the current work zone between mile marker 29-34, westbound traffic is in counterflow lanes on the eastbound side with two lanes of traffic in each direction. Travel lanes taper off leading up to this area in both directions to prepare for the traffic switch. This work zone is in place for ongoing resurfacing activities.
On or after September 8, the eastbound work zone will be extended three miles west to State Road 49 for drainage work to install a pipe at mile marker 27. The right lane and both shoulders will be closed through this part of the work zone. The weigh scales on I-94 eastbound will remain accessible. This work will take approximately three weeks.
Ramp closures will occur for two weekends at the I-94 and U.S. 421 interchange for pavement restoration. Ramps will close Friday around 9 p.m. and reopen by Monday at 5 a.m. U.S. 421 traffic will have access to one entrance ramp to both directions of I-94. Both directions of I-94 will have one U.S. 421 exit ramp available but only for one direction of U.S. 421.
The ramp closure schedule is weather dependent and subject to change but is currently as follows:
- Friday, September 11-Monday, September 14:
- Eastbound I-94 to Northbound U.S. 421
- Southbound U.S. 421 to Easbound I-94
- Westbound I-94 to Southbound U.S. 421
- Northbound U.S. 421 to Westbound I-94
- Friday, September 18-Monday, September 21:
- Eastbound I-94 to Southbound U.S. 421
- Northbound U.S. 421 to Eastbound I-94
- Westbound I-94 to Northbound U.S. 421
- Soutbound U.S. 421 to Westbound I-94
