Indiana residents affected by severe storms and flooding in August have until Sunday, October 25, to apply for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
According to FEMA’s October 9 recovery update, more than $137 million in individual assistance has been provided to more than 33,000 households across Indiana as of October 8.
More than $21.5 million has also been paid to National Flood Insurance Program policyholders, while the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Disaster Recovery has disbursed $7.6 million in disaster loans.
FEMA officials say residents whose homes or property were damaged during the August storms may qualify for assistance if insurance does not cover the cost of repairs or replacement.
Rental assistance may also be available to residents who cannot safely remain in their homes because of disaster-related damage. This assistance can help cover temporary housing while repairs or replacement are underway. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Residents who apply for assistance may receive a call from a FEMA housing inspector within approximately 10 days to schedule an inspection. FEMA reminds applicants that inspectors carry official government identification and will never request banking information or charge inspection fees.
Residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. In-person assistance is also available, with locations listed at on.in.gov/August2026Disaster.
The deadline to submit an application is Sunday, October 25, 2026.
