The Metamonong Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pulaski County America 250 Committee recently held a dedication recognizing Revolutionary War history in Pulaski County.

The ceremony included the dedication of grave markers for four First Daughters and the rededication of the grave marker for Revolutionary War Patriot Private John Davenport. A First Daughter is a daughter of a soldier or patriot who participated in the American Revolutionary War for Independence.

The event began at the Pulaski County Meeting House with 32 people in attendance. Members of DAR chapters from Pulaski County, Monticello, Logansport, Hammond, and South Bend attended, along with members of the Children of the American Revolution, American Legion, VFW, Pulaski County America 250 Committee, and Pulaski County Historical Society.

During the ceremony, members of the Metamonong DAR Chapter presented brief histories of Davenport and the four First Daughters: Jane Enyeart Wilson, Margaret Enyeart Graffis, Mary Ransey DeMoss, and Rebecca Weiser Eichelberner.

The group then proceeded two blocks north for the dedication of the Pulaski 250 Liberty Tree. Pulaski America 250 Committee Chairman Rhonda Terry led the ceremony, which included a blessing and the laying of wreaths by representatives of several DAR and Children of the American Revolution chapters.

Following the Liberty Tree dedication, participants took the First Daughter grave markers to their respective cemeteries. Wilson is buried in Old Star City Cemetery, Graffis in Mull Cemetery in Van Buren Township, DeMoss in Tippecanoe Township Cemetery, and Eichelberner in Winamac Cemetery.

Davenport is also buried in Winamac Cemetery.
