The Hamlet Lions Club recently donated a total of $2,000 to two local organizations that support children and their families across Starke County.
The club presented a $1,500 donation to the Starke County Youth Club to continue its support of the organization’s programs. The Youth Club works in partnership with local schools to provide accessible, safe programming that helps children achieve academic and personal success while offering support to families.

Starke County Youth Club Executive Director Irene Szakonyi explained that the organization was founded to address the need for a nurturing, educational environment for children who were spending too many hours unsupervised.
The Hamlet Lions Club also presented a $500 donation to the Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation in Knox. The foundation was established in memory of Cheryl Lyn Welter and her love of helping others and participating in school activities.
Funds raised by the foundation provide grants through rural Indiana schools to help underprivileged students in kindergarten through 12th grade afford school supplies, materials, and educational experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.
Hamlet Lions Club President Joe Borelli expressed appreciation for the work both organizations do for local children and families, emphasizing the club’s pride in providing financial support.
