The Knox City Council approved a proposal Tuesday, October 27th, to expand Christmas lighting at the Knox Community Center and the city’s Christmas tree.
Jesse Jordan, owner of Hometown Home Services, presented several lighting options to the council, including decorations for the Community Center’s roofline and entrance, as well as the city’s Christmas tree.
The council voted to approve the option covering the front and sides of the Community Center, along with lighting for the Christmas tree.
Jordan proposed a three-year agreement that would include providing, installing, maintaining, and removing the decorations each holiday season. The proposal included a first-year cost of $2,900 for the Community Center lighting, with a reduced cost of $2,000 for each of the following two years. The Christmas tree lighting was priced separately, with a discounted rate of $1,710 discussed during the presentation.
Mayor Dennis Estok explained that the improved lighting would also be featured in a promotional video being produced for the city. Filming has taken place throughout the summer, with the Peppermint Parade and Christmas tree lighting expected to provide the final footage.
The decorations are expected to be ready for the city’s Peppermint Parade and tree-lighting ceremony Saturday, December 5. Parade lineup begins at 3:30 p.m., with the parade scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
