A new youth basketball association is being established in Knox to provide more opportunities for boys in kindergarten through eighth grade to develop their basketball skills.
The Knox Youth Basketball Association, or KYBA, is being developed with the goal of offering more consistent basketball opportunities for students of different ages and skill levels.
KYBA President Leslie Condon shared that the association was the vision of Wes Radtke, who is in his first year as head coach of the Knox boys basketball program.
The goal of KYBA is to help children develop fundamental basketball skills and an enjoyment of the sport at an early age, while providing opportunities for continued development as they grow older.
Planned programs include Little Dribblers, a fundamentals camp for kindergarten through second grade students, and Redskin Ball for students in third and fourth grades. The Redskin Ball program will allow participants to learn directly from coaches while developing their basketball skills and knowledge of the game.
For older students, the association hopes to provide more competitive opportunities, including the development of travel teams.
The association is still in its early stages, and a community meeting is scheduled for this evening, Tuesday, October 20th, at 6:30pm Central Time in the Knox High School cafeteria. Attendees should enter through Door 1.
During the meeting, organizers will explain the purpose of the Knox Youth Basketball Association and discuss upcoming basketball opportunities for area youth.
All community members are invited to attend.
