North Judson officials are working to establish formal guidelines for the town’s 50/50 sidewalk improvement program after receiving a request from a resident seeking reimbursement for sidewalk construction.
During Monday’s North Judson Town Council meeting, officials discussed a request involving a property on Franklin Street where 109 feet of sidewalk had recently been installed.
The project cost approximately $4,800, and the property owner is seeking $2,400 in reimbursement through the proposed cost-sharing program.
Officials said the town has discussed the program extensively and has money earmarked for sidewalk improvements, but has not yet established the formal rules needed to distribute the funding.
The council discussed developing a resolution outlining how the program would operate, including contractor requirements, eligible expenses, and whether projects would need approval before construction begins.
Officials also discussed establishing guidelines to ensure project costs are reasonable and reimbursement requests are handled consistently.
The matter is expected to be addressed at an upcoming North Judson Redevelopment Commission meeting, where officials plan to work on developing a framework for the program.
No reimbursement was approved during Monday’s discussion.
