Outdoor musical instruments planned for Winamac Park

The Town of Winamac approved plans this week to work with the library foundation to install three outdoor musical instruments along the park’s story trail.

The library foundation already has two of the instruments and had been waiting for approval from the city before ordering a third. The three instruments together are valued at approximately $10,000.

During the meeting, officials discussed responsibilities for installing and maintaining the instruments. The town will assist with installation, including the concrete pads, and help remove the instruments when flooding threatens the park.

The instruments are designed to remain outdoors during normal weather but cannot be submerged in floodwater. Officials discussed placing them on higher ground along the story trail to reduce the likelihood that they will need to be removed.

The Park Board ultimately approved moving forward with all three instruments.
