The Winamac Town Council voted 3-2 Monday night to establish a 20-mile-per-hour speed limit on town-controlled streets.
The decision came during a discussion about installing additional speed limit signs along Riverside Drive.
One council member suggested establishing a uniform 20-mile-per-hour speed limit throughout town, citing safety concerns for residents and children, as well as making speed limits easier for police to enforce.
The new speed limit will apply to streets under the town’s jurisdiction, excluding state-controlled roads.
Following the vote, council members discussed determining how many additional speed limit signs would be needed. Officials also noted that some existing signs could be reused.
The council did not specify when the new speed limit would take effect.
