N.J.-S.P. School Board to Get Update on Elementary School Project, COVID-19 Tonight

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will get an update on COVID-19, as well as the elementary school expansion and renovation project tonight. Preliminary plans call for the construction of a new gym, allowing the existing one to be repurposed, as part of a larger $10 million project. But architecture firm Fanning Howey is expected to present more detailed drawings and cost estimates tonight, according to Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin.

Starke County Veterans Memorial Plaza Construction Nearing Completion

A community effort to honor Starke County’s veterans is now “in the final stretch.” Kathy Norem is a member of the Starke County Veterans Memorial project committee. She told WKVI’s Charlie Adams last week that the stones had been set, the flagpoles had been raised, the sidewalk was being poured, and the commemorative pavers were being installed.

N.J.-S.P. School Board Approves Capital Projects, Bus Replacement, Crisis Plans

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board finalized a number of annual plans last month. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said the corporation’s crisis plan is similar those used by other schools. “It does have resources available in it, roles, responsibility, who’s responsible for different situations, and recommended protocols,” she explained.

FAFSA Help to Be Offered during Virtual College Goal Sunday Event Tomorrow

Those planning to attend college next fall can get free online help with the financial aid process tomorrow. Indiana is hosting its first-ever completely virtual College Goal Sunday event. Volunteers will be available to guide students and their parents through the process of filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Governor Holcomb Won’t Take Part in Trick-Or-Treating This Year

As the decision of whether to move ahead with trick-or-treating is mostly being left up to individual residents, Governor Eric Holcomb will be among those not taking part. “In the interest of safety, unfortunately – I have mixed feelings about this – but we’re not going to host Halloween this year at the residence, so no trick-or-treating at the Governor’s Residence this year,” Holcomb said during his COVID-19 press conference Wednesday. “We’re going to try to make that up somehow, some way, creatively, in the future.”
