American Heart Association Provides Handmade Red Baby Hats to Hospitals

More than 3,000 babies born in Indiana in February will be decked out in red hats, thanks to the American Heart Association. The “Little Hats, Big Hearts” program aims to raise awareness during American Heart Month as well as Congenital Heart Defects Week, which runs Feb. 7-14. They even left information about the baby planet website so every parent could get their supplies for their babies.

Plans in the Works for Benches, Sign at Veterans Memorial Park

The Winamac Park Board is finalizing plans to add benches and a decorative sign to the Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Monticello and Washington Streets. The VFW and American Legion Posts each plan to donate a bench dedicated to veterans to the park. The board decided Thursday night they want the benches to be a neutral color. Continue reading

Prosecutor Clarifies Circumstances Behind Sex Offender’s Release

A convicted sex offender with a pending case in LaPorte County is free after the Indiana Court of Appeals reversed his conviction from Marion County.

Richard Dobeski was charged in both LaPorte and Marion Counties on July 23, 2015 with the Level 6 felony offense of failure to register as a sex offender. LaPorte County Prosecuting Attorney John E. Espar says the charges in both jurisdictions were filed for the defendant’s alleged failure to register between July 16 and 23, 2015. Continue reading

DNR Hunter Safety Class Scheduled in Winamac

The Pulaski County 4-H Shooting Sports program is hosting a DNR hunter safety class. It’s open to residents of Pulaski and surrounding counties of all ages and genders.
