The Marshall County Community Foundation is accepting applications for the first of two Community Fund grant rounds in 2015. This endowment fund award allows grants twice a year to nonprofit organizations for support in the arts, education, health and human services, recreation and the environment throughout Marshall County.

The Starke County Commissioners could vote tonight to offer highway superintendent Rik Ritzler a long-term contract. President of the Commissioners Jennifer Davis is spearheading the effort to ensure the long-term road repair and bridge maintenance plans for the county are carried out. Ancilla College Offers Winter Term Course
The first winter semester course offering at Ancilla College begins today. The four-week introduction to psychology course is offered entirely online and is available to students at any college or university. Ancilla President Dr. Ken Zirkle says the credits are fully transferable to other colleges or universities. He adds taking a course during what is traditionally an off time academically can help students retain their athletic eligibility and meet the minimum standards for financial aid offerings. Road Closed for Bridge Sealing
A three-quarter stretch of Starke County Road 800 East will be closed today. Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler tells WKVI News crews will be sealing the deck of the new bridge over Eagle Creek. As a result, 800 East will be closed between 50 South and 25 North. The road will reopen Sunday morning.
Pulaski County Council Approves Circuit Court Shredder Purchase
The Pulaski County Council this week approved a request from Circuit Judge Michael Shurn to buy a new high-volume shredder for his office. Shurn told the council he found a self-feeding 28-gallon model for $1,883.31. Continue reading

Culver Council Inks Agreement with Lions Club
The Culver Town Council and Lions Club recently signed a long-term lease for use of the train depot in the town park. The 25-year contract with the club for meeting space takes effect in January. It’s 10 years longer than past agreements between the town and club.
Stabbing Suspect Surrenders to Police

Marshall County Coroner Identifies Culver Fire Victim
The absence of smoke detectors in a Culver home is blamed for claiming a life. The Culver-Union Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to 504 Mill Street around 1:30 Thursday morning. Criminal charges will not be filed against a Knox Middle School teacher involved a shoving incident last month with a sixth grade student. Knox Council Passes on Parkview Lot Purchase
The Knox City Council is passing for now on the purchase of a property in Parkview Heights. The owner of 406 W. Giles Court, Lot 41 offered the lot and trailer and shed that sit on it to the city for $3,500. That’s $1,000 less than her last offer.
Mayor Rick Chambers says funds from the Blight Elimination Grant the city received to buy and tear down dilapidated structures cannot be used to buy or demolish mobile homes. He also notes the city only paid $1,500 for eight vacant lots in Parkview. Continue reading
