Open House Planned at Culver Beach Lodge
An open house is set for Monday, May 15 at the Culver Beach Lodge as a prelude to the summer season at Lake Maxinkuckee.
Park Superintendent Anna Campbell said the event will allow residents to see what changes have occurred inside the Culver Beach Lodge over the winter months. Town Manager Jonathan Leist will present information along with members of the Culver Town Council who will be available for questions.
Recovering Addict Speaks to Starke County Jail Addictions Education Program Inmates
A recovering heroin addict shared a sobering message with 16 Starke County Jail inmates who are part of the in-house drug treatment program. Herb Stepherson says he always felt like an alien in his own skin and started smoking cigarettes when he was 15 in order to fit in with his peers. It worked, and soon afterward Stepherson discovered alcohol as another means of escape. He went from binge drinking with high school friends on the weekends to skipping school and sneaking out of the house after his parents cracked down on him. Continue reading

Culver Town Council, Redevelopment Commission Schedule Joint Meeting
The Culver Town Council will meet in a specially-called meeting with the Culver Redevelopment Commission tonight at 5p.m. ET. The members of each government entity will discuss an agreement as part of a housing development project on Jefferson Street as outlined in the Stellar Communities application.
Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim explained that the town wants to enter into an agreement with the housing developer that specifies responsibilities. The town will do the infrastructure work and the housing developer will be responsible for building the homes.
Fire Hydrant Designs Considered by North Judson Council
North Judson’s fire hydrants are about to get a lot more colorful, thanks to some local students. Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says 72 fire hydrant designs created by elementary school students were presented to the town council last week. Continue reading
Pulaski County Council May Consider Courthouse Elevator Replacement, Court Software Switch
A new elevator for the Pulaski County Courthouse may be considered by the county council. Last week, the Pulaski County Commissioners gave their support to a plan from Keystone Architecture to replace the existing elevator with a larger, ADA-compliant one in the same spot. Open House Set for Wednesday at MAX 98.3 FM Studio
An open house to celebrate the relocation of the WYMR-FM MAX 98.3 studio is planned for Wednesday, May 10. The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce will help welcome guests with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. at the radio station’s new home at 215 N. Michigan St. in Plymouth.
Listeners are welcome to stop by for tours of the facility from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors will have a chance to meet the staff while several of the Kankakee Valley Broadcasting, Inc. board members will be in attendance to answer questions. The event will be broadcast live with live programming all day.
Westville Correctional Center Inmate Located, Following Escape Attempt
An inmate at the Westville Correctional Facility who went missing Friday has been found inside the facility. Prison staff say Orville Morris, 35, apparently crawled up into some of the mechanical systems in the ceiling of the pallet shop where he worked. Continue reading
