Starke Commissioners Recommend Funding Source for New Ambulance

 
 

The Starke County Commissioners have recommended a funding source for a new ambulance, and now it’s up to the county council to act. EMS Director Keith Emigh says the trucks in his fleet range from 1998 with a 1988 box to a problem-free 2013 rig with 58,000 miles. A 2003 ambulance with 167,000 miles and a 2009 truck with a history of mechanical problems round out the fleet.

Oregon-Davis School Board Works to Develop Strategic Plan

Oregon-Davis-Jr_Sr-BuildingThe Oregon-Davis School Corporation is working to identify a few items in their buildings that will require future replacement.

Following last Monday’s school board meeting, members toured the school corporation to discuss what should be included in a future “Strategic Plan.” The goal is to estimate the cost of replacing items essential to operating the schools, and estimating their lifespan.

Knox Officials Seeking Street Name Suggestions

City of Knox logoThe City of Knox is taking suggestions to for a new street name. One of the Community Crossings grant-funded projects will extend 150 South from South Heaton Street next to Sandy Acres Park to Roosevelt Road just past the Knox bus barn.

Knox Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston last week suggested the city come up with a street name for the road rather than continuing to refer to it as 150 South. Continue reading

Fatal LaPorte County Crash Remains Under Investigation

 
 

The cause of a fatal Monday afternoon crash that shut down a LaPorte County highway for nearly two hours remains under investigation. Emergency responders were dispatched at 1:42 p.m. to U.S. 20 west of Johnson Road for a serious injury crash. They soon discovered the driver of a blue Buick passenger vehicle was deceased. Investigators believe the Buick was traveling eastbound on U.S. 20 near Pinetree Drive, suddenly crossed over the center line into the path of an oncoming Able Disposal truck and hit it head-on.
