IRS to Privatize Some Debt Collection
The Internal Revenue Service will be turning over the collection of certain overdue federal tax debts to private collection agencies. Starting this spring, the IRS will be assigning some accounts that it’s no longer working on itself to four private contractors: CBE Group of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Conserve of Fairport, New York; Performant of Livermore, California; and Pioneer of Horseheads, New York. It happened around 2 p.m. yesterday at the Tate & Lyle facility on Bill Street. Firefighters were not able to go inside due to concerns about air quality and structural stability, and wind prohibited the use of a drone camera to assess the condition of the interior. The Starke County Council last week approved an additional appropriation for a program that helps children throughout the community. Rhonda Adcock is the director of Starke County CASA. The acronym stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. Adcock says it’s an arm of Starke Circuit Court, with volunteers who advocate for children who are in family court due to abuse or neglect. O-D School Board to Consider Contracts, Tour Facilities
The Oregon-Davis School Board will meet in special session tonight to approve a teacher contract for the current school year. That’s one of the items on the agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting at the administration building. Members will also discuss Hoosier Funds and consider a request to move the December board meeting from the 12th to the 19th at 6:30 p.m.
