Knox Plan Commission to Consider Tattoo Parlor Permits

Tattoo artistThe City of Knox ordinance with regard to downtown tattoo parlors will not be amended at this time. Instead the city council, at the recommendation of Mayor Dennis Estok, has opted to refer the matter to the plan commission. He says they can develop a special use permit to allow tattoo parlors, which are essentially prohibited by the restrictive ordinance language currently on the books. Continue reading

IRS to Privatize Some Debt Collection

irs-logoThe Internal Revenue Service will be turning over the collection of certain overdue federal tax debts to private collection agencies. Starting this spring, the IRS will be assigning some accounts that it’s no longer working on itself to four private contractors: CBE Group of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Conserve of Fairport, New York; Performant of Livermore, California; and Pioneer of Horseheads, New York. Fire Marshal Investigating Francesville Grain Elevator Explosion

explosion-2Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are in Francesville this morning, where a grain elevator explosion yesterday severely injured two people. It happened around 2 p.m. yesterday at the Tate & Lyle facility on Bill Street. Firefighters were not able to go inside due to concerns about air quality and structural stability, and wind prohibited the use of a drone camera to assess the condition of the interior.
