Resolve to Recycle This Holiday Season
The “most wonderful time of the year” is also the most wasteful. The United States Environmental Protection Agency estimates Americans generate 25-million extra tons of waste between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. Indiana Recycling Coalition spokeswoman Carrie Hamilton encourages Hoosiers to consider reusing and recycling year round. Following Zoning Approval, Tractor Supply Opening Remains Mystery
Now that zoning approval has been granted, additional steps can be taken to open a Tractor Supply Company location in Knox.
During Monday night’s meeting of the Knox Board of Zoning Appeals, a representative of Tractor Supply Co. requested a variance be granted to allow for the use of outdoor storage space at the Knox Mall – the proposed site of the store.
Coroner Space Scrapped from Old Jail Renovatoins
The extensive renovations of the old Starke County Jail in downtown Knox will not include space for the coroner. The county council and commissioners made that decision Monday night when they formally agreed to proceed with reconfiguring that building for the probation department and Starke County Community Corrections. During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers appeared before the board to discuss a collaborative effort to tear down the structure, otherwise known as the Long Branch property.

Knox BZA Clears Way for Tractor Supply
Tractor Supply Company was granted a special use variance by the City of Knox Board of Zoning Appeals Monday night. The company plans to occupy the portion of the building in the Knox Mall that formerly housed Alco. On a unanimous vote the board granted the variance so Tractor Supply Company could use outdoor storage and sales displays beyond what the current ordinance allows. Continue reading

Knox School Board Tours New Elementary Cafeteria
The newly completed Knox Elementary School cafeteria and cooking kitchen were a focus of last night’s meeting of the School Board. The board meeting was held in the cafeteria itself. Tours of the cooking kitchen were given by Superintendent A.J. Gappa. He reported the elementary building project is near completion. The new lunch facility has a seating capacity of about 150 students. The school’s enrollment of 450 eat there daily in three shifts. Continue reading
