Alice J. Fitzwater, age 76, of Knox, formerly of Westville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Alice was born March 13, 1946 in Valparaiso to Robert and Eva May (Hough) Harbeck, both deceased.
She was a 1964 graduate of Washington Township High School in Valparaiso. She was very artistic, especially painting, and belonged to the Door Prairie Painters and Land of Lake Art Alliance, Laporte Chapters, a wonderful cake decorator, and was very musically inclined and could play several instruments. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, cooking, baking. She loved animals, especially horses, cats and dogs and loved filling the bird feeder to watch the birds and other wildlife, and she loved to go camping. She had belonged to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon E. Fitzwater Sr. of Knox, a daughter, Melissa Culbertson (John) of Laporte, two step-sons, Vernon E. “Gene” Fitzwater Jr. of Lowell and Patrick J. Fitzwater (Tonya) of Indianapolis, a sister, Katherine Cope (Charlie) of Valparaiso, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Harbeck.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11am (CT), with visitation one hour prior to services, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Independent Cat Society in Westville, Indiana.
