Carl Frederick Schaefer, age 93, of Culver, Indiana passed away Monday, June 1, 2026.
Carl was born in Columbus, Indiana on August 4, 1932, to Louis and Caroline (Scheidt) Schaefer. He was a proud Veteran having served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked for many years as a machinist and tool and die maker. In his spare time, he loved to golf, shoot trap and skeet and target shooting rifles and handguns.
During his time in the Airforce, while stationed in West Texas, he met D. Loyce (Collins) Schaefer, they wed July 31, 1953, and was his wife of almost 70 years. She preceded him in death May 20, 2022.
He is survived by his daughter, D. Lori Smith (Mark) of Culver, Indiana, a grandson, Hunter Smith (Tia) of Knox, Indiana, a daughter, Harper Smith of Culver, Indiana, two great granddaughters, Elise and Alaya Smith of Knox, and a brother, Phil Schaefer of Columbus, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Caroline Schaefer and two brothers, Dick and John Schaefer.
His funeral service will take place at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox, Indiana on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1pm (CT), with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas the following week.
