Charles E. “Chuck” Johnson, age 97, of Knox, passed away at his home at Bass Lake on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Chuck was born on October 29, 1925 in Chicago to Edward and Martha Johnson, both deceased.
He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy aboard the USS Colorado and was a lifetime member of the VFW. During his working career he had been an Engineer on the Rock Island Railroad and Metra, retiring after 42 years of service. He never slowed down in retirement and loved living at Bass Lake, he was an avid golfer, line-dancer and song leader at the Grace Fellowship Church in Logansport. He truly enjoyed his time speaking with the students at the Knox High School about is military service during WWII. He would slip out every day if he could to have coffee with his buddies at both McDonald’s and Fingerhut Bakery.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson, children, Mary Ann Taylor (Jerry), the late Judy Griffin (Mike), Debi Augle (the late Bill), Sherri Swardson (Lee), Theresa Thomas, and Michael Thomas (Amanda), grandchildren, Amy Taylor, Michelle Fry, Erin Strauss (Jason), Jill Cruikshank (James), the late Bill Welch, Jennifer Mori (Steve), Brittany Snow, Eric Lacher, Macy Lacher, Brady Lacher, Owen Thomas, and Noah Thomas, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Emanuelson.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 2pm (CT), with visitation two hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
