Donald J. Carli, age 82, of Knox, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023 at his home. Donald was born May 16, 1941 in Roseland, Illinois to Frank J. Carli and Rita Braccolino Carli, both deceased.
He was a proud Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Maryal had owned and operated Donaldo’s Pizzeria in Knox for many years. He was also a committed member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and had served as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He truly enjoyed having coffee with his friends at McDonalds each morning. The most important things in life to him were faith, family and food. He had been married to his grade school sweat heart, Maryal Fiorenzi for 46 years before she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Hasnerl (Charlie) and Nita Macias (Robert), a sister, Carol Carli, granddaughters, Cassandra Gniadek (Ethan), Cara Carlson (Cody) and Maria Hasnerl, and a great grandchild, Palmer Gniadek.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1pm (CT), with visitation three hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Military graveside services and interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
