James (Jim) Elsworth Humes Sr., 79, of Knox, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022. He peacefully went to be with the Lord, while in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
The viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, January 27,2022 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home of Knox. The funeral will begin following the viewing at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Pat Allen and Pastor Rodney Rudd will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Burr Oak Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by M.C. Smith Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Ober, Indiana on May 13th, 1942 to Irvin Humes Sr. and Mabel (Dickson) Humes.
Jim was married to his amazing wife, Joan, on October 22, 1960. They were married for 61 loving years. During their 61 years the Lord blessed them with 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jim owned N&H Structure and enjoyed building homes for over 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and cooking huge meals for his family to enjoy. He loved spending time each year with his family in the mountains of Tennessee. His greatest joys in life were being around his family and friends sharing jokes and love. He was also a member of Gospel Lighthouse Church of Delong, Indiana, where he served as a Deacon for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife Joan, children, Tammy Neace (Kenny Stacy) of Knox, Brenda (Wayne) Geller of Knox, Jimbob (Shellie) Humes of Knox, and Pam Hudgens of Knox. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, Jennifer (Terry) Fletcher, Jessica McCan, Brandon (Nikki) Geller, Alicia (Ryan) Cohn, Austin (Sarah) Humes, Brianna (Kyle) Elam, Brittny (Eric) Whitaker, Krystal Herr and Jimmy Hudgens. He loved spoiling his great-grandchildren – Kaylee, Chase and Maggie Fletcher, Heisman and Quinn McCan, Noah Elam, Charlie Whitaker, Allison Humes, Kayden, Landon, Aubrey Cohn, Lyla Geller, Anna and Ava Herr, and Jimma Hudgens.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Irvin Humes Sr. and Mabel Humes, brothers Irvin Humes Jr., Howard Humes, Ronald Humes and a son-in-law, Robert Neace.
