Jeffrey Allan Gaskill, age 59, of Pomeroy, Iowa (formerly of Knox, Indiana) passed away suddenly on February 18, 2026, at Buena Vista Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Jeffrey was born on March 28, 1966, in Alta, Iowa, to Russell L. Gaskill and Karen K. (McGowan) Gaskill. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith as a baby. He was later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Jeff was raised in Alta, Iowa and attended school at the Alta Community Schools where he graduated 1984. Growing up in a close-knit community helped shape the loyal, steady, and caring man so many came to know and love.
Jeff worked in the trucking transportation field most of his life. He drove semi for some time, was a mechanic, a carpenter and most recently worked for D & H Transport where he escorted oversized loads. To his boss, Jake Harder, he was far more than an employee ~ their working relationship had grown into a true and lasting friendship.
Jeff enjoyed sports and was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He loved Nascar racing and always enjoyed a good game of pool, ranking in the State of Indiana for some time while he lived there. Jeff was always up for a card game or a spirited game of marbles, sharing laughs and friendly competition with family and friends.
Jeff shared 13 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Taunja. Their life together was built on love, laughter, and steadfast partnership.
Jeff’s heart extended beyond people to his beloved pets. He is also survived by his two sweet pups — affectionately known as “the boys” — Chip and Tater — and his kitty, Sassy, who brought him daily joy and companionship.
Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Taunja; his children, Matthew (Becky) Gaskill of Knox, Indiana, Joseph (Kim) Gaskill of North Judson, Indiana, Dusten Clary of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Latisha (Scott) Manns of Knox, Indiana, and Deric Griffo of Knox, Indiana; along with his cherished grandchildren, Shane, Logan, Vannessa, Serenity, Von, Ian, Ethan, Maci and Morgan.
He is also survived by his sisters: Constance Tunink of Gulfport, Florida; Rhonda (Michael) Ross of Ames, Iowa; and Kari (Neil) Puetz of Hinton, Iowa. He was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews: Emily (Brian) Sellner, Danny Ross, Rebecca Sennert, Derick Ross, Aaron (Stephanie) Sennert, Dilson Ross, Dustin (Ashlee) Puetz, Curtis (Meagan) Larson and Alex Puetz; and a great-uncle to Caleb, Harlie, Lila, Helena, Paul, Karter, Colt, Gracie, Neveah, Mason, Bryce, and Baylee.
Jeff is further survived by his uncle, Don (Joan) Gaskill of Meriden, Iowa; and his aunts, Esther Snyder of Indianola, Iowa; Janet Schimmer of Galva, Iowa; and Melba Smith of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; along with several cousins and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Kenneth and Esther (Swanson) Gaskill and Urany and Elizabeth (Gerjets) McGowan; his aunts and uncles: Kenneth (Loretta) Gaskill, Ronald Snyder, Marilynn (Lloyd) Arhart, Elvin Schimmer, Deloris (Ancil) Luttrell, Merlin (Delores) McGowan, Delmar (Betty) McGowan, Donald (Mary) McGowan, Robert (Kathi) McGowan, Dennis (MaryAnn) McGowan, and Garlan (Helen) McGowan; and several cousins.
Jeff will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, quiet strength, and deep love for his family. He valued loyalty, hard work, and the simple joys of life. Those who knew him will forever cherish his warmth, his sense of humor, and his willingness to lend a helping hand.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April, 25, 2026 from 12pm to 5pm at 306 West 2nd Street, Pomeroy, Iowa 50575. We would love to have all family and friends attend if possible. Jeff always had the ability to tell great stories and make us all laugh. We hope to hear many more memories from everyone then!
