Joan P. Underwood, age 89, of Knox, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022 at her home. Joan was born August 18, 1932 in Roseland, Illinois to Alexander Futter and Ella Solen Futter, both deceased.
First and foremost Joan was a homemaker, mother and wife. She was active and had served as president of the PTA’s at the schools attended by her children for over 11 years, and during her time living at Bass Lake she was very active in the surrounding community with such things as helping to organize Bunco and the Ladies of the Lake Luncheons, she and her late husband were also very active with the Bass Lake Property Owners Association (BLPOA) and the Bass Lake Neighborhood Watch.
On May 2, 1953, in Roseland, Illinois, she married Donald R. Underwood. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2008. She is survived by her children, Wayne Allen Underwood of Mokena, Illinois, Ray Allen Underwood of Aztec, New Mexico, Donna Lynn Underwood of Bass Lake, Indiana, and Gregg Allen Underwood of Knox, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Rose.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 11am to 1pm (CT), with Funeral services immediately following at 1:00pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Burial will follow at Bass Lake Cemetery.
