Karen Lynn Stout passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 26, 2024 at her home in Knox, Indiana. She was born on July 30, 1954 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana to LCMR Forrest Stout and Shirley (Marks) Stout.
She graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1972. She studied at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976. She also attended the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Karen worked as a registered nurse at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Viriginia and at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC. She spent a year living in London, as a traveling nurse, working at St. Mary’s Hospital from 2000-2001. She also worked in Bellingham, Washington and San Diego, California. Karen then moved to Knox to help care for her parents while working at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
Karen loved to dance and enjoyed participating in ballroom competitions while living in Washington DC. She also enjoyed attending dance competitions around the world. Her love for travel took her to many states and to several countries. She was a member of Tri-Kappa for 12 years. During that time she served as chairman of the Easter Egg Committee and as chapter President from 2013 to 2015. Karen also helped her cousin, Peg Brettin, at Santa’s Clauset in Knox, Indiana. Karen had a great love for her Golden Retrievers, spoiling each one of them.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved Django. She is survived by her brother, Dale Stout of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and her sister, Debra (Randy) Snyder of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and five nephews and their families. She is also survived by her dogs, Bodhi and Ollie.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 1pm-3pm (CT) at the Knox Community Center, 55 E. Lake St., Knox, Indiana. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
