L. Ellen Bechinski Peters, age 83, of North Judson, Indiana, passed away Thursday evening, February 9, 2022.
Ellen was born July 8, 1938 in Wanatah, Indiana, the only daughter of the late Lloyd and Bertha Bechinski. Ellen attended Wanatah schools and graduated in 1956 from Wanatah High School. Ellen played in the band for 5 years and sang in the glee club for three years. She was very proud of her accomplishment when she earned her official band sweater. Ellen also belonged to the Laporte County 4-H club for 7 years earning many awards. Ellen was also proud to be the sister of 5 brothers. Surviving her are Larry Bechinski of LaCrosse, Indiana and Dan Bechinski of Union Mills, Indiana. Welcoming her to heaven are brothers Donald, Fred and Dave Bechinski.
On July 14, 1956 Ellen married Marvin Peters who preceded her in death by 6 days. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and were great role models for their daughters Kathy (Phillip) Brown of North Judson and Karla ( Sonny) Wyland of Plymouth, Indiana.
Ellen’s hands were rarely still as she enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Enjoying her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls were her grandsons Josh Brown and Jared (Jamie) Brown all of North Judson. She loved to cook and experiment with new recipes. She looked forward to entering the Cooking With Mint Contest every summer.
Ellen was a member of the St Peter Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years as well as serving on various committees for her church family.
Ellen is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved.
Services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Visitation beginning at 10:00 am – 12 noon with funeral service immediately following at St Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson, Indiana.
