Cremation will take place at the Frain Crematory in Winamac. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Sharon Kay Oliverius

Sharon Kay Oliverius, of Knox, Indiana, p.assed away peacefully on March 20, 2025.

Sharon was born on April 20, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Marguerite Clark Oliverius and Kenneth Keen who proceeded her in death in May of1944. At the age of 3 Sharon was adopted upon the marriage of her mother to James Oliverius of Knox, Indiana. She was a devoted aunt and sister and a cherished friend to many. Sharon was a 1962 graduate of Knox High School, participated in 4-H for 10 years and won the canning competitions often. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star. Sharon attended Ball State University a short while and spent most of her working years bookkeeping for several businesses. She had a love of travel that took her to Hawaii and several states across the nation. She lived a few years in California and then Texas. She was the “Cool Aunt” spoiling her 2 nieces and nephew. In her free time she enjoyed all types of art from photography to painting and collecting owls. Sharon started gardening programs at both of the nursing homes she lived in over the past decade. She enjoyed tending to plants and people with her caring ways. Known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering positive spirit, she touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her smile was contagious.

She is survived by her nieces, Jill (Adam) Collins of Winamac, Indiana. Jody (Jacob) Joseph of Culver, Indiana and nephew JD Oliverius of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sister-in-law Sally Oliverius and numerous great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marguerite Oliverius, Kenneth Keen, her brother James Clark Oliverius and a stillborn sister Donna Lee Keen.

A memorial service to honor Sharon’s life will be held at Noon (CST) on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox with visitation being from 10am (CST) till the time of the services. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate her life and share memories.

Paula M. Gilson

Paula M. Gilson, age 56, of Hamlet, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 16, 2025.  Paula was born February 8, 1969 in San Jose, California.  She had worked many years as a waitress at the Family Café and Christos, both in Knox.  When not working she loved spending time with family, especially her grandkids.  She is survived by her long-time companion, Brian Pike of Hamlet, her mother, Gail Hine of Hamlet, daughters, Ashley Goble of Hamlet and AnneMarie Gilson of Knox, a son, Jordan Gilson of Hamlet, brothers, Mike Smith of South Carolina and Walter Smith of Texas, and six grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Taren Abair and her father, Walter Smith.

A celebration of life will take place at 2pm, March 29, 2025, at the Knox Community Center.

84-year-old Rita Palm of Knox passed away on Sunday, March 16.  Viewing will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM CDT Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Marilyn S. Drang

Marilyn S. Drang, age 77, of Ora, Indiana passed away Monday, March 10, 2025. Marilyn was born April 15, 1947 in Bass Station, Indiana to Ernie and Florence (May) Thompson. Marilyn’s life-work was education, having achieved a Masters Degree for herself, she went on to spend her career as a school teacher. She taught at the Knox Middle School, Oregon-Davis Junior High and Lincoln Junior High in Plymouth. She had many hobbies including reading the Bible, watching the beautiful birds at the bird feeder with her husband, playing games with family and friends, especially rummikub and sequence. She particularly cherished her time raising her three children and spending time with family.
