Funeral services for Michael Garnie Williams, 71, of Knox, are Wednesday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox, with visitation there from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family.

Hobart ”Hobie” Martin

HAMLET – Hobart ”Hobie” Martin passed away at his home in Hamlet, IN on Sunday, September 5, 2021.  He was born on August 19, 1923, to James and Laura (Bechdol) Martin, who resided in Cass County, Indiana during their lifetimes.  Upon graduation from Young America High School in 1941, Hobie enrolled at Ball State University in Muncie, IN.  However, after only one year of college, in February of 1943 he was drafted into the United Sates Army where he served in the US 86th Infantry Division in both the European and Pacific Theater Operations.  The 342nd regiment went into action in March of 1944 in Belgium, crossed the Rhine into Cologne, and finished the war in Austria.  Upon his discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946, he returned to Ball State and completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business education.  In 1947 he married Delores Addison, who preceded him in death on November 11, 2009.

Raymond Saltsman Sr.

Ray was born on June 16, 1942, in Medaryville, Indiana to Hallie Everett and Edna Mae (Brick) Saltsman. On May 19, 1962, he married Shirley Ann Shelton, the love of his life. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Ray worked hard through the years to provide for his family, being employed by Chet Coburn, Kiser Aluminum, Hicks Gas, Northway, Allis Chalmers, Monon Trailer and he retired in 2011 after many years of working at Talbert Trailers. He also served on the Medaryville Town Board. He deeply loved his family and cherished spending time with them. He also enjoyed building and remodeling, yardwork, feeding and watching birds & squirrels, hunting, fishing, camping, bonfires and cookies. Being a jack of all trades, he was the one that everyone in the family went to for help.  Ray loved teaching people how to care for things and others. He was a member of Amazing Grace Fellowship Church in Francesville, IN.

Charles A. “Charlie” Troyer

Charles A. “Charlie” Troyer, age 84, of Knox, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021.  Charlie was born July 1, 1937 in Knox, to Irvin Troyer and Leona Burger Troyer.  He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Airforce, he was a member of the Hamlet American Legion, the Knox VFW and the Knox Moose Lodge.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, especially in Spooner, Wisconsin, hunting and finding mushrooms at his secret mushroom hunting spots.  He also loved playing pool at the Hamlet American Legion Post.  Continue reading

Thomas (Tom) G. Hampton

Thomas (Tom) G. Hampton, age 75, of West Lafayette IN, passed away on August 31, 2021. Tom was born on March 16, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Wayne and Maxine (Groth) Hampton. Tom graduated High School from Waterford Kettering in Michigan and held B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue University. Tom is a retired employee of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Services, where he worked for 33 years. Tom began his career as a 4-H Educator, with the goal of becoming a District Director. Through his leadership and dedication to the communities he served he accomplished his goal and ended his career as the Southwest District Director.

Carmen “Susie” Clemons

Carmen “Susie” Clemons, age 56, of Walkerton, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at her home.  Susie was born October 6, 1964 in Knox, Indiana to Tevis Craft Sr. and Alice Beauchamp Craft.  She loved baking and drawing and was a good Christian.  She will be remembered as a great mom, and was known as “Mom” to all of her kids friends.  She is survived by her sons, Levi Clemons and Alan Craft, both of Walkerton, a sister, Tammy Tobey of Knox, a brother, Ron Craft of Argos, and a granddaughter, Evelyn Hurd.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Clemons, and a brother, Tevis Craft Jr.

Tom L. Reed

Tom L. Reed, 76, Warsaw, Indiana, and longtime Rochester, Indiana resident, passed away at 1:36 P.M. Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Paddock Springs Health Campus, Warsaw, Indiana.

He was born on September 23, 1944 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Paul Winfield and Adeline (Bailey) Reed. He graduated from Knox High School, Knox, Indiana, before moving to the Rochester area to start farming.
