Edna Rose

Edna Esther Rose, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4 from 11am to 1pm (CST) at O’Donnell Funeral Home, located at 302 Lane St, North Judson, Ind.  Lily Pelsy will speak at the service.

Edna was born to Frank and Mabel Wilson on June 19, 1925 in Lomax, Indiana. She spent her youth in Wisconsin and later moved back to Indiana. She married Frank Rose on Aug. 23, 1941 in North Judson, Ind. where they raised their six children:  Robert Rose, Barbara Long, Leona Knoll, and Janet Melton, who survive, and Betty Lou Rose and Kathryn Tilley, who have passed.

Edna’s heart was forever in Wisconsin where for 30 years she traveled to her cabin in the woods to enjoy the outdoors that she so loved and grew up with. You could see Edna out fishing, watching the bears, deer and other critters, or enjoying the fresh, crisp air of Northern Wisconsin.

Edna was a regular at bingo. You could also catch her in the casino from time to time enjoying the slot machines, and she absolutely loved playing rummy.  She also enjoyed nickel-and-dime poker too, as long as the family didn’t “play those crazy games.”

She loved reading her Western books, especially Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey, and watching old-time Western movies.

Edna attended the Calvary Lutheran Church in Draper, Wisconsin where she treasured her dear friends from the area. Many knew her as the one of the sweetest people as she lived her life with kindness and graciousness, always.

In her youth, Edna worked at the Kingsbury Ammunition Plant and for 15 years she worked in the kitchen of Little Company of Mary in San Pierre, Indiana. Edna was also an employee of Colonial Inn in Winamac, now known as Kostas.

Edna is preceded in death by her brother Vernon Wilson and her sister, Wynona Hayes, lovingly known as “Uncle Sonny” and “Aunt Dub.”

Her family meant the world to her. Grandma Rose leaves behind her 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.

Her gravesite will be located next to her husband Frank in Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
