Robert D. Cleveland

Robert D. Cleveland, age 87, of Knox, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born July 2, 1933 in Knox, to Merl Obert and Edith Hilligoss Cleveland.

He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army, the Korean War ended while he was in basic training, so he was instead deployed to Austria. He was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. He loved driving, whether it be one of his old cars, on vacation or during his long career as a truck driver. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids who loved to call him “Bushy-Brows”.

He married Eunice Skiff on October 29, 1955 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, she survives. Also surviving are his children, Ken Cleveland (Pat) of Itasca, IL, Tammy VanVolkenburg (David) of Knox, and Penny Kissinger (Randy) of Middleville, MI, a sister, Linda Dilts (James) of Knox, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merl Obert, Edith Hilligoss Cleveland and his step-father, Melborne Cleveland, a son, Rodney Cleveland (Kathy), a brother, Larry Cleveland (Alice) and a sister, Sharon Dymond.

A memorial service will take place at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 12noon, with visitation two hours prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the church in his memory. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
