Robert E. Peters, Jr., age 71, of North Judson, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born July 17, 1952, to the late Robert E. Peters, Sr. and Marie (Short) Peters in Knox, Indiana.
Robert worked for U.S. Steel in Gary for 12 years before he decided to become an independent semi-truck driver from 1984 to 2000. He then was hired again at U.S. Steel to drive semi on their premises succeeding in a 27-year career with U. S. Steel.
Robert was an avid church attendee at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson, Indiana. There he served as Sunday School superintendent, usher, acolyte organizer, Lay Minister, as well as, visiting nursing homes, hospitals and homes of his church family to aid in any way possible.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eva (Stone) Peters, a son, Jason Peters (Mandy) and a daughter, Amy D. Peters, two grandsons and one granddaughter and one great grandson, two sisters and three brothers. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Robert was kind and compassionate to everyone he met and longed to be of service to those in need.
Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2024, from 3-7pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11am (CT), with visitation one hour prior to services, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
