Russell “Russ” Maranto, 80 years old of Bass Lake, Indiana, passed away surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Valparaiso, Indiana.
He was born Wednesday, May 3, 1939 in Lascari, Sicily, Son of the late Joseph Maranto and the late Nina(Marzullo) Maranto.
After meeting at Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois, Evelyn Ghidotti married Russ Maranto on June 11, 1960, celebrating nearly 60 years of marriage together.
Russ was a member of the Bass Lake Property Owners Association. Russ had a great passion for building speed boats and birdhouses. Russ enjoyed spending time at Bass Lake and socializing with his immense circle of friends he and Evelyn have made. Russ and his wife Evelyn had a love of travel. Russ’s greatest passion was spending time with his wife Evelyn, children, grandchildren and his beloved granddog Mia.
Russ was a Millwright superintendent in the construction industry.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Maranto of Knox, Indiana, Son, Mark(Mary) Maranto of Pendelton, Indiana, Son, Steven(Rebecca) Maranto of Chesterton, Indiana, Daughter, Lisa(Mark) Spoolstra of Portage, Indiana, 8 grandchildren Tyler (Alyssa) Spoolstra, Cody Spoolstra, Michael(Lexi) Maranto, Matthew(Abigail) Maranto, Michelle(Karl) Krauter, Danielle Maranto, Olivia Maranto, Celia Maranto. 5 great-grandchildren Liliana, James, Elia, Jackson, Amelia, Sister, Tina Fredrickson of Portage, Indiana.
Celebration of Life services to be held at a later date, Braman & Son Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
