Sandra K. DeGard, age 82, of Knox passed away August 15, 2026 at her home. 
Sandra was born May 1, 1944 in Hammond, Indiana to William Wurtzbacher and Frances (Goldbaugh) Wurtzbacher. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and her family was her life. She loved being a homemaker and cooking. She was known for her great sense of humor and her family traditions which she has passed on to her children. She was also a great animal lover. She met Donald DeGard Sr., her childhood sweetheart while playing marbles, this year they were married 66 years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald K. DeGard Sr. of Knox, Children, Donald K. DeGard III (late Michelle) of Knox, Kathy Huff (Justin) of Hixson, Tennessee, David DeGard (Veronica) of Knox, Kevin DeGard (Claudia) of Knox, and Jerry DeGard (Janary) of Knox, two brothers, Richard Wurtzbacher of Florida and Joseph Wurtzbacher of Crawfordsville, Indiana, grandchildren, Donald J. DeGard IV (Misty), Dale VanCuren III (Kim), Matthew VanCuren (Tessa), Andrea DeGard, Kara DeGard, Christina DeGard, Mia Reinoso, Kevin Nataren and Melanie Nataren, and great grandchildren, Donald J. DeGard V, Dale VanCuren IV, Dylan VanCuren, Rylan VanCuren, Dawsyn VanCuren and Jensyn VanCuren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Wurtbacher, an infant son, Donald K. DeGard Jr., and two sisters, Alice “Snookie” Ingram and Sue Smith.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 1pm (CT), with visitation two hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery in Hamlet, Indiana.
