Sara Jackson Wright, age 99, passed away in her home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Sara was born in Chicago on April 13, 1923, to Cecil and Nellie (Meyer) Jackson. She was baptized in the Knox United Methodist Church on September 23, 1923, and continued to be a member until her death.
She grew up in Center Township and graduated from Center High School in 1940. She then attended South Bend Business College in 1941 with a Secretarial Degree. Upon completion, she began her 40-year career as a secretary and administrative assistant for the Farmer’s Bank and Trust and the Knox Insurance Agency.
On June 30, 1946, she married Kenneth C. Wright, after he returned home from World War II. She was a 75-year member of the General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. For many years, Sara was the Starke County Democrat Party Vice Chairman, and a member of the Historical Society. In 2008, Sara was recognized by the State of Indiana with an Honorary Secretary of State Award.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Nellie (Meyer) Jackson, brother Robert Jackson, her husband Kenneth C. Wright, and one grandson, James Wright.
Sara is survived by four children, Marcia Hayes (Ted) of Knox, Nancy Montgomery (Ed) of Sarasota, FL, Larry Wright of Knox, and Jim Wright of Michigan City, IN, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her family will always remember her kind, loving way to all she knew.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Knox United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knox United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
