Sherman Lewis Lute

Sherman Lewis Lute, a lifetime resident of the Hanna Area, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

Sherman was born August 7, 1933 at home on the farm in Hanna Township to the late Claude and Grace (Cumerford) Lute.

He graduated from Union Mills High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Sherman was a member of the American Legion in Union Mills and Hanna United Methodist Church. He was the Superintendent of the La Porte County 4-H Sheep Program for 40 years, Fair Board Director, member of the La Porte County Row Crop, and a Hanna Cemetery Board member. Sherman was a retired dairy farmer who also raised beef, swine and sheep.

On May 14, 1960 in La Porte, he married Connie Jean Foor who survives. Also surviving are his son, Rodney (Jennifer) Lute of Golden Valley, Minnesota; daughter, Lisa (Troy) Berndt of Grovertown; 2 grandchildren, Austin and Eric Lute; 2 sisters, Gladys Alfred) Hunke and Estella (Don) Rosenbaum; plus many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter (Janice) Lute; 2 sisters, Violet (Claude) Kissinger and Marion (Richard) Sauter.

Sherman’s passion was joking and teasing everyone. He loved taking his grandsons for a ride on the tractor. Sherman was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and friend to all. He always made people laugh and lived life by being a loving example.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at Hanna Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 with Full Military Honors. Family and Friends are welcome to attend but please wear a mask. Attire is casual with optional cowboy hat in Sherman’s honor

A Memorial Festival will be scheduled during the summer of 2021 to celebrate his life.
