Vernon E. “Bud” Fitzwater Sr., age 75, of Knox, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2023. He was born on May 26, 1947 in Oak Hill, West Virginia.
He was a long-time employee of U.S. Steel, having retired after 44 years of service. He was always happy to help a friend or neighbor in need, especially if they needed their car worked on, never taking a penny for parts or his labor. He also loved fishing, camping, drinking coffee and attending Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox.
He is survived by his children, Vernon “Gene” Fitzwater Jr. (Johanne Johnson) of Lowell, Patrick Fitzwater (Tonya) of Indianapolis, and Melissa Culbertson (John) of Laporte, three brothers, Ronald Fitzwater (Sophia) of Oak Hill, WV, Bobby Fitzwater of Beckley, WV and Michael Carte (Nora) of Taylor, MI, grandchildren, Robert Fitzwater, Andrew Fitzwater (Mariah), Alex Hernandez (Lydia), Kjerstine Fitzwater, Phoenix Marshall, Logan Marshall, Viktor Marshall and William Culbertson, and one great grandson, Theodore Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Fitzwater, and six siblings.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11am (CT) at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
