PHONE SCAMS AGAIN GOING AROUND NORTH JUDSON!
01/07/15 – North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely reminds citizens of a variety of phone scams going on in the area. Do not give anyone any information and hang up on the caller. If you have caller ID, do not answer unknown calls. One of the scams includes telling the person who answers the phone that the IRS has problems with them, their payments, and that they may have a possible warrant for their arrest. For a set amount of money, they can help make everything go away. It’s a scam. Another scam caller included using a police case number where you either owe money or are going to be arrested, or have a warrant. These are scams. Do not give them any information. Tell them nothing, hang up, and don’t answer continuing calls. Never send anyone who you don’t know money, credit card numbers, green dots, prepaid cards, or anything of any value including Western Union.
The IRS deals by mail for any original contacts. Other police departments do not call and offer you a way out of trouble. Be careful, smart, and save time and embarrassment.
