Police Reports

Doug Vessely
North Judson Town Marshal Doug Vessely

From the North Judson Police Department:

Incidents:
06/30/11 North Judson Police responded to a call at the Mint Valley Apartments in the early morning hours because a tenant heard a smoke/fire alarm going off. Police summoned the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department as well. It was discovered that another tenant was asleep while a pot on the stove in that apartment had boiled dry. No fire damages were reported.

06/29/12 A two vehicle mishap occurred in the Family Express parking lot when a vehicle driven by Michaela Zeithers, of Winamac, backed into a 2004 Dodge Intrepid being driven by Marion Minix, of North Judson. Zeithers was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi. North Judson Officer Darren Conley investigated the accident and estimated damages at over $2,500. No injuries were reported.

06/29/12 Another two vehicle accident was investigated by North Judson Police Officer Kelly Fisher in the 700 Block of Talmer Avenue. A 1996 Ford Ranger, driven by Joe Bradley, of Knox, backed into a 2000 Ford Escort. Toblin Pierette, of North Judson, was driving the Escort. Officer Fisher estimated damages at over $2,500 and no injuries were reported.

06/28/12 A broken lock was reported at the U-locks on Talmer Avenue. No entry was made and nothing was reported missing to North Judson Police.

06/25/12 Shortly after midnight, a vehicle was reported stolen in the 300 Block of Franklin Street. North Judson Officer Frank Thomas is investigating the theft of the 2001 Buick Century. On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Doug Vessely received a dispatch in reference to a suspicious vehicle abandoned on 725 West and Toto Road. This was the same vehicle reported stolen and it is believed the thief was “joyriding” or it was a prank. The keys were in the vehicle and Vessely stated, “Please take your keys out of your vehicle and lock the doors when it’s parked. This helps eliminate the opportunity for someone to ransack or steal the vehicle.”

06/25/12 North Judson Police responded to a fraud call in the 200 Block of Leslie Street. The complainant stated she received a call from a blocked number saying they were from the federal government and that she had won a $1.5 million prize. The caller wanted her to send a money gram in order to obtain her winnings. Chief Doug Vessely reminds you that you should never send money, give out personal information or bank accounts to anyone over the phone, or argue with this type of caller. Just hang up. This is a scam. In this incident, the caller told the woman what her house looked like and that if she didn’t send the money he might have to come to her house and she felt threatened. “Remember with the internet anyone call look up your information and street addresses that shows a picture of your home, even from the front or side, as if you are driving by the home. These callers are more than likely in a foreign county and will try anything in order to get someone to send cash. Stick to the fact that if it sounds to good to be true, it is, it’s a scam, be careful and never send money.
