Two Knox property owners have been given 30 days to finish repairing their buildings or face a $2,500 fine. Mayor Dennis Estok told the rest of the board of works last week that the front of 1 North Main Street has had broken glass for months, and while owner Pete Milev said he has some replacement glass, it hasn’t been installed yet.

A trial date over a Downtown Knox building has been pushed back to October. The city ordered the owner of 1 & 3 North Main Street to make repairs back in 2017, but decided to take him to court after little progress was made. A bench trial had been scheduled for August 12, but City Attorney Autumn Ferch told the board of works Wednesday that it was moved.

Knox Board of Works members have to play the waiting game now that a small claims case has been brought against a non-compliant property owner. At their meeting on Wednesday, members received an update about the property owned by Pete Milev, located at 1 and 3 North Main Street.
Milev previously received a one-month extension from the board, but after he didn’t make all the repairs that were promised, members asked City Attorney Leslie Baker to take further action. That’s when she filed a complaint with the court. Continue reading
