The Municipal Election results from Starke County show that it was a breakthrough for the Republicans in the Democrat stronghold of North Judson and a new City Councilman in Knox was elected.
In the most thrilling race of the night, Republican Donna Henry defeated Incumbent Democrat Connie Miller for the North Judson Town Clerk-Treasurer position with a vote of 221 to 217. Henry waged a vigorous door-to-door campaign, visiting many of the homes numerous times. She was asked what did it for her.
The deadline for candidates to file in the City of Knox 2011 Starke County Municipal Primary Election was at Noon on Friday, February 18th. Here are the candidates for the spring primary:
The filing deadline for candidates seeking office in the 2011 Municipal Primary Election for the City of Knox is at Noon today. Candidates seeking office in Hamlet and North Judson have until August 1st to file.
Two people filed in the Starke County Clerk’s Office yesterday. Jane Ellen Felchuck, a Democrat, filed for the North Judson Town Board District 1 seat, a position she now holds on the Board. Kristina Pitts filed on the Democrat ticket for Hamlet Town Clerk-Treasurer.
Friday is the final day to file for candidacy in the City of Knox spring Primary Election. Candidates seeking office in North Judson and Hamlet have until August 1st to file. In Starke County, the most recent filing occurred Tuesday when Brian Earnest, a Democrat, filed for the Hamlet #1 Town Council seat .
A race has developed in Hamlet. Frank Lonigro, Jr. filed for candidacy this week in the Starke County Clerk’s office for the Hamlet Town Board #3 seat. Bob Yung had filed earlier for the same seat. Both candidates will compete in the Democrat caucus.
Thirteen people have filed for candidacy for the 2011 Municipal election in the Starke County Clerk’s office. The two latest candidate filings include Donald Kring for Knox City Council and Bob Yung for Hamlet Town Board.
Clerk Evelyn Skronski explained that candidates filing for positions in the North Judson and Hamlet town elections have until August 1st to file while candidates for the City of Knox election have until February 18th to file. In general, Primary Elections are not held for the candidates of major parties, the Democratic and Republican parties, in towns under a population of 3,500 unless the town has adopted an ordinance to nominate candidates at a primary election. This applies for candidates running for positions in Hamlet and North Judson. If there is a party opposition on any of the seats open for candidacy in North Judson or Hamlet, a Town Convention will be held to determine the candidate for the General Election. Those are typically held in August.
The same rules apply for candidates in Pulaski County in the towns of Winamac, Medaryville and Francesville. One candidate has filed for candidacy for the 2011 Municipal Election. Christina Hoffa has filed for Winamac Town Clerk-Treasurer.
The Starke County Clerk’s Office helped sign up candidates Wednesday for the 2011 Municipal Election. Jeff Houston filed for Knox City Clerk-Treasurer and Rick Chambers has filed for Mayor of Knox. Jeff Berg and Greg Matt filed for seats on the Knox City Council. Debra Sue Goble filed for Hamlet Clerk-Treasurer, Connie Miller filed for North Judson Town Clerk-Treasurer and Dan Anderson filed for a seat on the North Judson Town Board.
In Pulaski County, Christina Hoffa has filed for Winamac Town Clerk-Treasurer.
Today is the first day to file for candidacy in the 2011 Municipal Election. Knox Mayor, Rick Chambers, announced that he is seeking another term in office.
The first day to sign up for the spring primary has been put back until January 19th. The delay is because of the Martin Luther King holiday on January 17th. The final day for sign up is February 18th.
It will be interesting to see if the Republican success in the fall election will carry over to the Town and Municipal election in 2011 in Starke County.
Elections will be held in Knox, Hamlet, and North Judson.
