Culver School Board to Discuss Salary Schedule, Extracurricular Assignments Tonight
The Culver School Board will consider a corporation wage and salary schedule when it meets tonight. Board members will also review their schedule for putting together the 2019 budget. The list of extracurricular assignments for the 2018-2019 school year will be up for board approval, along with a revision to the school corporation’s eLearning policy.
Pulaski County Council to Consider Hiring Outside Help with Adjusting Tax Structure
The Pulaski County Council is not likely to address issues with its local income tax structure in time to have an impact on the 2019 budget. A sudden drop in revenues from the “LIT Levy Freeze” tax was brought to the county council’s attention in September of 2017. In the months that followed, there were some discussions about working with an accounting firm to address the issues, but little progress was made.

NJ-SP Officials Discuss Necessary Budget Changes Due to State Policy Passed in 2017
When North Judson-San Pierre school board members met on Tuesday, they discussed an upcoming change that will impact how the school corporation keeps track of finances.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin reminded the board members about a House Enrolled Act (HEA 1009) passed in 2017 that will go into effect on January 1, 2019. This will impact all schools, not just NJ-SP. According to Zupin HEA 1009 will eliminate a few different accounts including the capital projects, transportation, bus replacement and general funds. Those will all be replaced with two new funds; the Education fund and the Operations fund. Continue reading
North Judson Department Heads Start Considering Plans for 2019 Budget
North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe has started the budget process for the 2019 fiscal year by providing all department heads with budget form one to fill out.
Rowe explained that “form ones” list amounts from past budgets for comparison and gives the department heads a chance to provide an estimation of what they expect to see in the next fiscal year. Continue reading

Knox City Council members had to move a little money around before the budget season begins.
When members met at the end of May, Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston explained that the budget process will begin in June. He noted that all accounts need to be in black and alerted them that there were only two funds that needed attention before he could proceed. Continue reading
Starke Election Board to Discuss Voting Machine Upgrades with County Council, Commissioners
The Starke County Election Board is ready to take its proposal for voting machine upgrades to the county council and commissioners. Vendor MicroVote wants to bring the county’s 46 machines up to the latest federal standards, in time for the 2020 presidential election. Board members decided Wednesday to discuss the upgrades with the county council and commissioners during their March 19 meetings.
Town of Winamac Continues Contract with Umbaugh for Budget Assistance
Winamac town council members permitted Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger to move forward with a contract with Umbaugh and Associates for financial assistance with the 2019 budget.
Berger explained that the contract remained the same and the fee is still around $7,000. Last year, the majority of their efforts went toward helping them figure out issues with the Local Income Tax. Continue reading
