Oregon-Davis is adding a junior high baseball team. The new team was approved by the school board Monday, at the recommendation of Superintendent Bill Bennett.

Starke County Baseball and Softball League President Travis Markin discussed installing some electrical cords on a few of the diamonds in Wythogan Park during last week’s Knox Park Board Meeting.
Markin explained the league wants to put cords on diamonds two in three and said the electric lines are needed for pitching machines. Markin stated that the league would incur the cost of installation and said they want to bury the cords in order to prevent a tripping hazard.
Park Superintendent George Byer explained that sometimes field maintenance can interfere with such installations. Continue reading
South Bend Cubs Award Scholarships to Local Athletes
Two recent high-school graduates are each heading off to college with $5,000 thanks to a scholarship opportunity provided by the South Bend Cubs. The local recipients of the scholarship are Mattie Reese, a softball player from John Glenn High School and Andrew Samuelson, a baseball player from LaPorte High School.
Winamac Town Council Plans Fence for Dog Park
The Winamac Town Council may soon be able to provide a service, without the hassle of managing conflicting schedules.

North Judson vs. Oregon-Davis
The North Judson San-Pierre Blue Jays played host to Starke County rival Oregon-Davis on Thursday. The Jays emerged victorious over the Bobcats 21-3, behind 20 team hits. Brenner Cruce got the win for North Judson, going four innings, striking out eight batters, and giving up just one hit. Oregon-Davis scored all three of their runs in the third inning.
