Blood Drive Scheduled in Honor of WKVI’s Tom Berg
Celebrate life and make a difference this Election Day by giving blood. The American Red Cross is hosting a drive tomorrow at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on South Heaton Street in Knox in honor of WKVI morning show host Tom Berg. He was diagnosed last summer with Stage 4 cancer and is on medical leave during his treatment. Tom used to be a faithful blood donor but is no longer able to give due to his medical condition. Red Cross Observes National Blood Donor Month
The American Red Cross is reminding people of the importance of donating blood during the month of January, which is National Blood Donor Month. The goal is to increase the number of blood and platelet donations over the winter, a time of year when severe weather can cause blood drives to be canceled and seasonal illnesses may keep regular donors from giving. American Red Cross Warns of a Looming Blood Shortage
During the summer months, the American Red Cross and other blood banks see a sharp decline in the amount of donors at their blood drives. On average during the summer months, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross drive than what is needed. This Summer Give Your Blood to Something Other Than Just Mosquitoes
The Indiana Department of Transportation is hosting a drive this week and it surprisingly has nothing to do with cars. This particular event is the result of the INDOT Northwest Disrict teaming up with the American Red Cross for their 10th annual blood drive. Blood Supplies Dwindling, Donations Needed
Blood is in short supply in Indiana. American Red Cross officials say donations dropped significantly over the summer. That’s due in part to donors taking vacations. Also, many blood donation drives occur at schools, which are out for the summer.
Ancilla Hosts Blood Drive; Raises At Least 17 Pints
Ancilla’s Student Government Association recently hosted a blood drive through the American Red Cross, successfully collecting blood donations from 17 of the 21 volunteers. On Tuesday, Feb. 4, SGA Faculty Advisor Jill Neidlinger, President Amanda Amstutz, and many student volunteers helped prepare and organize the event, with students, faculty and staff turning out to donate.

WKVI to Sponsor Blood Drive
K99.3 WKVI is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive this month.
The blood drive is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30 from noon to 6 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.
Blood Drive to be Held During Winamac Block Party; Donations Needed!
The second annual Downtown Winamac Block Party, sponsored this year by H&R Block, will not only be benefiting the local food pantry, but the Indiana Blood Center as well! The Blood Mobile from South Bend will be present at the block party from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, and Jennifer Shank-Maxwell from H&R Block said it’s just another way to give back to the community.
“The block party is all about giving back to the community, and what better way to give back to the community than to have a blood drive? This will be the first year that the blood drive will be part of the block party; there have been other blood drives in Winamac, which also was part of why it seemed like a great idea,” said Shank-Maxwell.
Blood Donations Desperately Needed
As a result of the recent bad weather across our region during this holiday season, the local blood collections have decreased. Type O negative blood is especially needed now. Since type O negative blood can be used for any patient when there is not time to determine the patient’s blood type, it is crucial that there be a sufficient supply.
