An organization serving Starke County children is expanding its facilities. Kid’s Closet is planning a 60-by-20-foot addition to the building it shares with the North Judson United Methodist Church Food Pantry on State Road 10, according to North Judson Building Inspector Nick Radtke. The Hamlet Zoning Board continues to research the possibility of a new fee structure for building permits. During Wednesday’s meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts gave board members copies of Starke County’s permits and suggested adopting a similar system.
Hamlet’s building permit fees may soon be getting an update. Last week, the Hamlet Zoning Board discussed the possibility of overhauling the town’s building and zoning procedures.
The North Judson Town Board discussed modifying the commercial building permit fees at their meeting last week.
The current fee schedule allows a commercial business to pay $.15 a square foot of new building construction. Instead, the Board plans to incorporate a flat fee per permit. If the new building or addition is 10,000 square feet or less, the permit will cost $250. If it is 10,001 or more, the permit will be $500.
The North Judson Town Board will be revisiting building permit fees. The current fee schedule states that a residential permit fee will be based upon the square footage of the project. The permit fee is $.15 per square foot of the building. The fee schedule does not include a separate allowance for commercial buildings. The fee schedule will be modified to reflect that change.
