The Culver School Board will consider an eLearning policy and elementary school book rental fees tonight. Board members will also discuss changes to a recreation easement for the Cavalier Sports Park project. It involves upgrading a piece of school-owned property currently used for youth soccer fields, as one of the town’s Stellar Communities projects.

Culver Town Council to Meet Tonight
The Culver Town Council members will hold a public hearing on an ordinance that amends the traffic, parking and pedestrian regulations within the town. In a previous meeting, Town Manager Jonathan Leist noted that this is a document that was presented and approved earlier, but it needs to go through the public hearing process once again as directional wording was incorrect in the first version. After the public hearing concludes, the town council will hold a first reading of the ordinance.
Marshall County Highway Department Assists with Culver Trail Project
The Marshall County Highway Department recently completed the paving of a one mile section of the proposed walking and biking trail in the Culver Town Park and along the old railroad bed to Culver Academy.
Culver School Board Approves Recreation Easement Agreement for Cavalier Sports Park
The development of Culver’s Cavalier Sports Park cleared another procedural hurdle Monday. The Culver School Board approved a recreation easement agreement. “That is the park that is being developed out here through the Stellar Designation for the Town of Culver and Union Township,” School Superintendent Karen Shuman explained. “Both of them have put money toward developing that park. They just need our easement agreement to make those improvements.”
Culver Town Council to Consider Rezoning for Culver Meadows Development
The Culver Town Council will consider the next step for the proposed Culver Meadows development. It would consist of about 25 single family homes and townhouses, as well as a new gas station in the area of State Road 10 and State Road 17. During tonight’s meeting, council members will consider an ordinance on second and third reading to rezone the property to a Planned Unit Development.
Culver School Board to Consider Agreements for Help with Possible Referendum
The Culver School Board will continue preparing for a possible operational referendum tonight. Agreements with accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates and law firm Ice Miller to help with the referendum process will be up for approval. An operational referendum is designed to help a school corporation supplement its General Fund, which pays for things like teacher salaries.

The projects funded by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) as part of the Stellar Communities Designation Program in Culver will undergo public hearings this month and in May.
Culver Stellar Communities Project Timeline Taking Shape
The Town of Culver reached “stellar” status late last year with the Stellar Community Designation Program designation and with that comes several large projects to increase tourism and overall appeal to the lake town.
There is a four-year timeline in which to complete the projects outlined in the Culver’s strategic investment plan.
Culver Stellar Projects to Expand
Some projects within the Town of Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation program will expand thanks to additional Community Development Block Grant funding.
Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe read a report into the record from Town Manager Jonathan Leist during last week’s meeting. Leist indicated that the Stellar Committee agreed to expand the Cavalier Sports Park project along with the Culver Beach Lodge renovation efforts and Lake Max programming and accessibility. It was the decision of the committee on Dec. 19 to expand on the current projects rather than begin planning for an entirely new venture.
Culver Town Council Gets “Stellar” News
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist delivered some “stellar” news Tuesday night to the town council members pertaining to funding for projects within the town’s designation as a Stellar Community.
“We had our first meeting with the grant administrative staff from the state and found out for our Community Development Block Grant funding through OCRA that they basically set aside $2 million for us,” said Leist. “A lot of that we’ll use at the Culver Beach Lodge and Cavalier Sports Park. That is a significant chunk of change that won’t require a local match at all. It’s very good news!”
