Plymouth Airport Receives $2.2 Million FAA Grant
The Plymouth Airport will get a wider runway and more improvements thanks to an FAA grant worth $2.2 million. Matching funds from the city and state of $126,805 each brings the total to a little over $2.5 million.
Mayor Mark Senter said the project has been in the works for many years but the current infrastructure needed to be upgraded before the runway could be restructured.
“We had buildings here in awful shape,” explained Mayor Senter. There were garage doors that would barely open, roofs that leaked, dimly lit hangers with airplanes that shivered in the cold winter, cracked sidewalks, an office area styled for the 1970s, and a pilot’s lounge that was indescribable. Let’s fix what we have first, then we can start talking about a mile-long runway.”

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Officially Opens U.S. 31 in Northern Indiana
The grand opening of the new U.S. 31 highway between Plymouth and South Bend was held Wednesday afternoon with Governor Mike Pence and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski in attendance plus the engineers behind the project and the crews that worked on the highway.
Governor Pence said the new U.S. 31 will be a great asset to the economy of not only Northern Indiana but the whole state.
“I think it’s really incalculable,” said Pence. “When I say that roads mean jobs, I mean that having the right infrastructure creates conditions that invite more investment that will put Hoosiers to work for generations to come. The vision for what used to be called the expressway that now is the Mangus Memorial Highway is a result of decades of effort here in Indiana. I believe that it’s going to put not only Northern Indiana, but all of Indiana in a position to attract more investment, create more jobs and opportunities in addition to creating a safe and more accessible thoroughfare.”
Walorski Supports Bill Eliminating Health Care Subsidies for Congress

Congresswoman Walorski Aims to Pass GAS Act
In an effort to reduce the cost of gasoline, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski is teaming up with a Nebraskan congressman in reintroducing the Gas Accessibility and Stabilization Act in the House of Representatives. According to Walorski, this “commonsense” legislation will help to stabilize gas prices by allowing the EPA to waive fuel mandates. GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan agrees with the idea.
“It’s certainly a big step in the right direction. Politicians have long looked at price gouging and other factors behind gas prices, but I think this is the root of all evil here, is the fragmentation that exists with boutique fuels – that is, different cities, different counties, maybe utilizing and consuming different types of gasoline than other nearby cities,” said DeHaan.
